We have liftoff!

This countdown would launch Apollo 11 toward a mission the media called "the greatest accomplishment of the decade." On July 20, 1969, man first stepped on the Moon, a historical event watched around the world. Through the lens of Kurth Krause's space engineering career, readers come to know how events unfolded during one of the most dangerous space missions ever attempted, as highlighted in My 36 Years in Space: An Astronautical Engineer's Journey through the Triumphs and Tragedies of America's Space Programs. A team of masterminds managed to land two astronauts on the Moon's surface. But would they be able to bring them back safely?

A fascinating story of a true space pioneer.

Wow! What an exciting read! Mr. Krause takes us on a"edge of the chair"ride through his aerospace career, from his first job at the Military and Space division of General Motors to his retirement from TRW. Along the way we are taken inside the day to day experiences of an astronautical engineer during the heyday of the early space programs. We are with him as he introduces us to some of his early friends and neighbors; space pioneers such as Apollo 8 lunar module pilot Bill Anders, Apollo 16 moon walker Charlie Duke, Apollo 17 command module pilot Ron Evans, and Skylab commander Jerry Carr. All heroes of yesteryear. Kurth describes the eventual decline of the space program, and his continued career in engineering, ending finally with his significant contributions to anti-terrorism program development. A fascinating story of a true space pioneer.

We've all read or seen movies that depict our space accomplishments from the astronauts' point of view. This book presents our space accomplishments from the point of view of the support staff who made their journeys possible. Starting with Apollo and going through the shuttle program, Kurth's storytelling from the engineering and computing staff's point of view is a must read. You won't be able to put this book down!

A truly mesmerizing read.

In his writing he takes you with him on his adventures through life starting with his schooling to his years in the space program and after until his retirement. What an amazing ride. I read the book twice. Thank you Kurth for an amazing book.
